Colin Twiggs is a former investment banker with more than 40 years of experience in financial markets. He writes The Patient Investor newsletter and founded PVT Capital (AFSL no. 546090), which manages securities investments for high-net-worth investors.
Born in Durban, South Africa, Colin qualified as a chartered accountant at KPMG before joining national trust company Metboard. The company soon merged with international bank Investec, where he filled senior roles in finance, property, and investment banking.
After moving to Australia in 1998, Colin concentrated full-time on trading and investment. He co-founded Incredible Charts, developing new technical indicators—Twiggs® Money Flow, Trend Index, and Momentum—suitable for longer-term trend analysis and writes the Trading Diary newsletter, with more than 110,000 subscribers.
To succeed in investment, you must swim with the tide and not against it. Colin specializes in tidal changes in financial markets, focusing on interest rates and liquidity as key drivers of the economic cycle. He warned of the 2008/2009 bear market as early as January 2007 and was several months ahead of the February 2020 bust.
Using secular trends in the global economy to identify investment opportunities, Colin combines technical analysis with bottom-up fundamental analysis for stock selection and position-sizing. This service is provided to private clients through PVT Capital.
Colin and his wife Gaye live in SE Queensland, where he is involved in surf lifesaving and open-water swimming and enjoys an occasional game of golf.
